AN INTERVIEW WITH A KINDERGARTNER
"I can do everything," Aundrianna says. "I love to be showing off."
She opens the children’s book, "The Life and Times of Lilly the Lash; The Garden Gathering," to the first page and reads aloud - in a British accent. "Early one morning as the garden awoke, the daisies sipped coffee while the hummingbird spoke, telling a tale that would make them all laugh, causing the bluebells to double in half."
The author of the book, Julie Woik, attended Aundrianna’s birthday party as a special guest.
"I have my own garden with plants," she says, turning the page. "This is my favorite page because of the ladybug inside this flower."

DESIGING LIFE
Marc Tobin, is a 39-year-old "kid," who has worked as an illustrator for the past 15 years. He also has a love for spaceships, which not only carries into his work, but sometimes, shapes it. The author of the children’s book he recently illustrated, Julie Woik, made a reference to a rocket just so he could draw one. "She knew I wanted to get a spaceship in there somewhere," he said.
Last fall, Ms. Woik approached Mr. Tobin after seeing his website. She had completed the story and needed an illustrator.
"The Life and Times of Lilly the Lash, The Garden Gathering" is a story about an eye-lash fairy. A series about self-esteem; with a potential for producing as many as 30 books.
Tobin enjoyed the six months he spent illustrating the book. "It was a blast," he said.

KEKOSKEE NATIVE TURNS EYE LASH INTO SUCCESSFUL BOOK IDEA
"The Life and Times of Lilly the Lash," is a somewhat fantastic tale of how a lash from a young girl’s eye helps fantastic characters learn life lessons. In "The Garden Gathering," Lilly the Lash ventures into the garden to interact with the plants and animals, while teaching children how to be truly accepting of others.
The book features rich, almost cinematic illustrations by Marc Tobin of Pennsylvania. "I wanted it to be so fantastic that children would love to look at it," said Woik.
Woik pictures the book as an international success because the core values and lessons presented have no real boundaries. |
